Gen Y to Gen How (suite): “United For Change”

Gen Y to Gen How

The first post is always really important. Big pressure.
French or English? Whatever, according to the mood. Warning’s done. I go with my time!

After some thinking I decided to be typical of my generation, and talk about us. Us, Ourselves and We. Very Gen Y. The world revolves around our existential search for a distinctive identity and I won’t be an exception because I am a quasi-caricature of the phenomenon. And it hurts to write “caricature” – which of course I don’t want to be, I want to be me, as we Y all want to be!

This is not a blog about Gen Y. One of my friends is already doing that (writing a blog and planning to write a book on ourselves is so Y as well. Helloooo! We’re here! And I strongly support him in this project).
Because our Generation Yells, but silently, and unheard.
Our Generation Yawns, bored…
And our Generation Yearns, for a better world. Sounds awfully cheesy, really, but actually means something after all.

Today, my dream is to stop asking the wrong questions. The really question is not Why but How. I just read a BBC News article formally informing us that “The Arctic Ocean could be largely ice-free and open to shipping during the summer in as little as ten years’ time”.

Ok… where’s the important information here? This is the kind of articles I think should be in the first page and making waves, instead of Jean Sarkozy’s contested curriculum vitae I don’t give a rat’s arse about. I don’t care why bloody global warming is transforming my planet in a giant swimming pool with little ships happily crossing it during summer time (and soon, winter?). I don’t want words, or speeches, or useless meetings; I want to know how to stop it, and I want some action! Like those high school students who created a cell “Let’s act for sustainable development” and actually made some changes in their school… but did not get a reply from a single environmental association when asking for help and advice even though they sent a very complete letter to a dozen of them. I am appalled.

I dream all the time. I don’t talk much, but I do write a lot. Might as well add my contribution and speak my mind. And damn, I am going to speak my mind.
